After last year, it became very clear to those of us living near America's "energy coast" (ie Gulf Coast) something ain't quite right. Florida, California, and the Atlantic coast states all have offshore reserves but refuse to produce for various reasons. Selfish ones? Alaskan Wildlife refuge? Lovely for caribou, I suppose. Increased Gulf state coastal erosion caused by decades of oil exploration many see as the real culprit behind Katrina and Rita's devastation. Loss of protective marshes, etc. Note the percentages mentioned in the article. Can you say all your eggs in one basket? Where's Jed Clampett with that rifle of his when we need him? Forgive the rant. First possible storm of the season currently heading for the Gulf. See you in the shelter.

Groucho, only cave that I am aware of in this area is known as Fricke's Cave, notorious as the site where the victim was found in the real life crime which eventually led to "Dead Man Walking." Insufficient capacity for general evacuations. I'll put some extra bottled water and a few MRE's with your name on them in the doomsday closet upstairs if you're down this way when the next one comes.
