I can tell you that many, many American businesses are represented on those engines. The engines are designed in Switzerland, but components are globally sourced. My company supplies highly specialized hydraulic components to those Korean shipyards, and consequently we support many local American manufacturers (machine shops, vendors).

I think in the future, 2-stroke Diesels will give way to Molten Salt Reactors (nuclear-power).

And if you drop down to "medium speed" diesels (which are still HUGE) then the US has Caterpillar, Cummins, EMD, General Electric (yes, they build the GEVO, 7HDL and 7FDL diesel engines), and Alco- just to name a few. Drop down one more size class so that over-the-road engines are included and you can throw in Detroit Diesel, too.

I like this image. It looks like a fairly normal 2-stroke cylinder until you realize there is a guy down there working on the crank.

Oops, I meant maritime 2-Stroke Diesels! I don't think MSR's are coming to a weedeater near you anytime soon.

In the 80's I worked at the UK company that made the dynamometers to test those engines. This one can absorb 100,000 hp at 100 rpm.
