OK so my buddies Dodge the one I was going to buy. I'm on the fence . It slips once in awhile if you start it up and just go. When its freezing outside and the truck has sat awhile. My buddy says its done it a few times In 6 months and he thinks its because 15k miles ago his dad had a trans flush and used bg universal fluid. His dad also thinks so. If the truck sits for a minute it wont do it only when you just start it and go. Fluid level is good . Filter isn't much older than fluid. It did it last year when the fluid was done and then didn't do it again till this winter. Anyone have any experience with bg . Maybe it's the cause? I'm not sure but I don't think it's licensed atf+4 but says it will work for atf+4 kind of confused. Any help is appreciated

If it did not do this before I would be suspicious, it is quite a coincidence. BG makes some good products but I have never used their transmission fluid. Dodge has had the poor reputation for transmissions in some of their vehicles for a while, I don't see what it could hurt to change the fluid to an OEM approved ATF+4. It is a quality spec and I would want it in my Dodge transmission. Unless they are willing to change the fluid I would not buy the truck because if the fluid doesn't change anything you may need costly repairs. Then again it could run for a long while. It's your money and a gamble. JMO

First thing change the fluid.

If the trans is bad the symptoms will persist.

Cheap and easy diagnosis. ANY slip in a slushbox is bad news.

B-G is made in my town, wichita ,ks. they have been here a long time. i have VEVER heard any thing bad about them. i have heard good.

Well guys update. Me and my buddy agreed to change the fluid tomorrow but since the truck is technically hos dads he has to listen to him. His dad said he doesn't want to do that and just wants to sell it. I offered to buy the fluid to and pay him for his time but hos dad said no. So it looks like I'm going to pass on the deal. Kinda bummed about it. Hope it doesnt cause any hard feelings but I feel like I'm being reasonable.

chevyboy14,

I wonder if you have bands in your transmission? If so perhaps the dealership can adjust them for better performance. I have an 01' Durango 4.7 engine and so far with almost 100K miles I've had good luck with it. Even with my transmisson I can't say if it needs any band adjustment cuz according to the manual all it needs is a fluid/ATF+4 Chrysler approved and maybe a filter change.

No more band adjustments. Modern trans self adjust to compensate for normal wear.

Typically if they slip and are not simply worn out it's a pump issue, or the regulator that governs the pump pressure. The wrong fluid can stop anybody dead in their tracks.

B-G makes a good universal transmission fluid. I do not believe it enough credit on here IMHO. But this should be a good lesson do not conduct business with friends or family. Nothing can really be gained by either party unless both parties came to agreement before the purchase.
