I"ve never had this problem.from reputable websites until now...

the capacity data for some vehicles are flat out wrong. once (at Castrol), I let it go as a fluke. twice (at Walmart), it is a trend...some vendor got it wrong.

so if you see a capacity figure that doesn't jive with your memory, it probably isn't you.

Not specifically speaking about errors, but it seems that so many websites with parts selectors all use the same back-end database. I'm guessing some company compiles this data and sites like Autozone, Walmart, etc all buy it and integrate it in their websites.

As for that little Honda engine (1.5L), that value could be close for the "without oil filter" capacity. We have a Civic with a 1.8L engine and the capacity WITH filter is only 3.9 quarts. Without a filter change, I'd guess it's around 3.5 quarts. Amsoil says 3.4 quarts too 🤷‍♂️

4 qts and done. It will not be over filled.

That's what I do with ours. With my Infiniti, it calls for 5-1/8, I think, and I dump a 5-quart bottle in it and call it done. It reads almost to the top mark on the dipstick too so I'm definitely not under-filling it. The dipstick is THE final say.

i go by whatever the manufacturer says rounded to the next closest whole number. my k24’s get a full 5 quarts, 2019+ GM trucks get 8 quarts, new ford coyotes get 9 quarts etc.

Walmart says that 6607 oil filters don't fit my Mazdas, so....yeah.

Of course, Mazda says 4.8 Quarts with a new filter, but it takes like 5.2 to get it to the full line...just sayin.

Most auto manufacturers capacity specifications are to the middle of the min and max mark. I've noticed that for years. So I have to figure out what gets me to the max line. Some cars its one liter or quart between the lines, but for others it is two quarts or liters. Just depends on the maker and sometimes the specific engine.

I always noticed that when I get an oil change at the Ferrari or BMW dealers, they always fill to the middle point. When I do it myself I fill to the max.

Amazon wins the most inaccurate award
Amazon clearly has the worst automotive parts look up I have ever used.

It is terrible and I have enough knowledge to catch all the compatibility errors. But for the average person, they get screwed all the time. Just read the reviews from frustated customers that used their lookup and ended up with the wrong windshield wipers, battery, cabin filter....on and on.

The work around is to use pretty much any other auto parts website look up, then use that part number to search on Amazon.

Take Owners Manual as first reference point, cross check with say M1 site or another one, then confirm when doing actual fill.
I remember I had to drain a bit when did oil change on friend's 997 and had to wait for electronic oil level 'dipstick' to become even available as there is a timeout, now I remember it's 8.25L... :D

So even the manufacturer is "wrong" (??). Seems this thread started as a typical "crap on Walmart" opportunity but in the first post's case, it's actually not incorrect. The way I see it now is it's fine. No one can buy 3.38 quarts of oil, so they'll get at least 4, right ? Put in 3.38 (3-1/2 in the real world) and check with the dipstick. If it's low, they have add'l oil to add. No harm, no foul.

Even the owners manual can be wrong. When I bought my wifes 2022 Ford Bronco Sport with the 1.5L, they made a running change on the oil pan from steel to plastic and the quantity increased from 5.3 qts to 6.6 qts but all the PDF copies for 2022 only show the 5.3 qts. Ford has made no effort to send out a change notice to owners on it and you learn the hard way about it.

Anybody who relies solely on those is an idiot…who knows how they are populated.
Start with the capacity in the OM, and double-check and triple check with the dipstick what is actually in the vehicle!
Some of us don't have dipsticks.

Yeah the timeout is hell, especially when it goes to an hour if the engine is cold. VWAG engineers with Amuk Syndrome snorting schnitzel... except now KIA bought up all the VWAG/Porsche engineers. Maybe KIA will eliminate the dipsticks soon.

Given how easy it is to get online manuals in addition to the hardcopy you presumably have in your glovebox, I see no excuse for getting capacity wrong by relying on unproven sources.

Kia has enough dipsticks running their company. No need for them to be redundant ( or narcissistic ! ) by putting them on a vehicle buyer's vehicle ! It probably will have " lifetime " fluid in it anyway ! 😉 😖😫
