Better Exhaust System Hangers

One of my vehicles uses those rubber donut hangers for the exhaust system. Aftermarket ones usually last a month or two and then tear and disappear completely. They're not under what I would consider excessive stress. I can install them by hand without the need to use pry tools to stretch them onto the hooks.

I've used the cheap Dorman "Help!" brand as well as relatively expensive ones made by Rol.

Seems they all source these things from the same rubber molding factory in India.

Anyone have experience with a known better source or brand for these things? I'm thinking OEM might be the best source.

Walker is as good as OEM. But get the exact one you need, not some universal fit. RockAuto.

AP would be a second choice.

Does anyone make polyurethane hangers for your vehicle? Maybe give them a try.

I ran into some that were cut out of old tires. Do you have enough room to double-stack yours for added rigidity?

Could you have something like a dud motor/ trans mount that's twisting your exhaust way too much?

I've tried the Walker brand ones. Yes, I purchased them by application; they're not universal type. I replaced them along with the pipes (cat-back) and muffler back in '05. I don't know when they first started disappearing but I've been replacing these things every couple OCI's when I notice them missing.

The car is FWD/transverse engine arrangement; no twisting, per se. The engine would have to crank over quite a bit towards the firewall for the donuts to ever see any kind of push force.

I just think it's [censored] material the donuts are made out of.

Quite common in the UK VW scene is to reinforce the rubber hanger by putting a jubilee clip round the outside of it - that way rubber keeps the metal parts insulated from each other and the jubliee clip stops the exhaust from drooping and stops the rubber from snapping

Around here we call those jubliee clip's hose clamps.

If they are similar enough, TT (Techtonics Tuning) sells them for VWs with a chain moulded into them.

I'm guessing they are not the only supplier...
