I am having a difficult time removing my rear plugs from my 01 sable with a duratec engine. Any thoughts on making these easier are appreciated. I did this about 4-5 years ago and just don't recall it being as difficult then.

Although it sounds like a big job to remove the upper portion of the plastic intake manifold, it is neither hard nor long and it IS the best way to get those rear plugs and/or change the rear wires. The o-rings are reuseable.

You can change the back 3 on the non MZI/non VVT Duratec without taking off the upper intake? Interesting. I did not know that.
I did my plugs once by just lifting up the UIM a couple of inches once. It's so much easier to just take off the upper intake.
If the Taurus' EGR is like the Mazda6's, Gearwrench is your friend.
Duratec is not that bad compared to a Mitsubishi 6G72. (except the oil filter. Oil changes are easier on a 3.0 Eclipse) But I can do the plugs in a relatively short amount of time on the Mazda.

You can re-use the UIM o-rings. Says so in the ford FSM. Inspect them first and if there is any chafing or deformation of the silastic, then replace them. Felpro are cheaper and better quality than Motocraft o-rings - avail. at NAPA.
