Yes, you can use a PC to apply paste wax, but you might find the process a little inefficient and time consuming. I detailed a car last week and finished with 476S applied by hand using foam apps. Even with two people sharing one can, the application went quickly.
Like any car wax, the goal is to apply a thin even coat. Don't let it sit too long on the paint or you'll need a chisel to remove it. As soon as we were done applying the wax, we started to remove it. It'll take some vigorous polishing to remove all the residue and you'll need to double check your work to ensure it's all been removed.
As for an IPA wipedown, yes, I do it but only prior to applying polymer sealants like Zaino, or to check my polishing work to ensure I am removing paint defects instead of filling them. Not sure what tip I can offer; I just spray it on the paint and wipe it off with a clean microfiber towel. Pretty simple process.
