Interesting graphic. If the graphic is accurate, I suspect it must be in a macro basis. I am sure every state has an outstanding barbecue joint or two

IMO, it's not accurate. There are way too many dark green states. I'm in a green state. I've been to every BBQ joint in my area with a 100 mile radius, I have gone on trips specifically to try more BBQ places. I've found a couple that are OK / passable. None of them would I wait in line for, definitely not wait in lines that are hours long. I'm specifically talking about the lines in TX for places like Franklin's/KG/TB/Snows, or any joint on Texas Monthly's top 10 list. I admit that some of that line waiting is an experience ... sort of like tailgating, but we have nothing worth that wait.

This is a common problem though, folks that haven't had truly good BBQ don't know what they're missing.

Kentucky is vastly overlooked for its regional bbq styles. It's only in the last few years getting its dues on tv and by chefs. Colorado does have a number of bbq joints mostly by transplants from other states. Bison is a vastly underutilized native meat from Colorado and the high plains that pairs well with bbq.

The best BBQ joints in NC don’t have a website or Facebook page. One really good indicator of at least a decent BBQ restaurant is if it has a stack of hickory wood and smoke rolling. If not, it’s likely they buy BBQ offsite and reheat and resale. More than likely frozen….

For NC, you guys do have places like Skylight and John G's. I didn't mean to imply there were any in other places, just that it's slim pickins. It's far too slim to call most of those green states - green.

Kentucky has the best here in western Kentucky. If you are in the area try Knoth's in Lake city.or 4 Little Pigs in Benton. They have Bison burgers too. Delicious bbq beans too.

Exactly. I am sure there are a couple good bbq places in every state. A good bbq state is one where you can pull off the road just about anywhere and have pretty good stuff.

Whenever I find a GOOD BBQ place in WA state, I say "you ain't from around here, are you?"

And I guaraaaaaaaaaaaanteee that place will not last 6 months.

Because the idiots, the dolts, the people born with zero taste buds, the mentally lame, the ignorant, the fat, the gutless, the stupid people in the PNW don't even know what tastes good and is worth paying money for.

Map is 100% accurate there.

It is very much macro, and very wrong on Nevada. That's just not right.

In Missouri there are a lot of really good BBQ but at the same time a lot of mediocre and crap BBQ.
My local Price Chopper supermarket sometimes has fall of the bone ribs but most of the time a little tough.
Their smoker is right in the parking lot, Sometimes they fail in the process.
