I agree with that . A battery that might last another year down here in the South West , may not make it theough the winter , up North .

There was a discussion about that claim a couple of years ago using Mobil 1's numbers. And according to those that know on here until you get to extremes like -20F and 30F, Mobil 1 5w30 was actually thinner than Mobil 1 0w30. Definitely thinner than 0w40.

Weather here seems to be cooling down a few degrees .

Same here. I've been using 10w30 in every thing for years as we normally don't have many days below 0 but after last year I'm going to start using 5w30, just to many days below 0 and a few -10 to -25 days.

I live in an area that gets to a low of -30F to -40F (-40F = -40C) for a month a year. I've run lots of oils that had trouble at these temps. Blends would rough start. Some synthetics too. Toyota 0w20 (similar to 0w20 Mobil Super Synthetic) did not do well (very rough start and rough idle until it warms up). Pennzoil Platinum (0w20 and 5w30) did well and so did 5w30 and 0w20 Mobil 1.
In fact, the 5w30 PP and M1 did way better than the Toyota 0w20. I am very sensitive to how the engine sounds at startup at extreme low temps. It was a big difference.

Works for me in Nebraska and worked for me in Colorado when Mobil I didn't have a 0W oil yet.

Last winter in WI (and not the very northern or western parts that typically are colder, either) we had two weeks straight in late Dec and early Jan, then one more in Feb, that did not get above 6 degrees F. Many days in a row of highs around zero. Low temps, not including wind chill, were 30 below. Then three feet of snow in April between two storms.

5w30 and 5W-20 Pennzoil in my wife's Impala and my Ram Hemi.
Both flow/pump at temps I will likely never see where I live Southern Ontario. I have a block heater in my Ram and am considering installing one in my wife's Impala if it is available and easy enough to do?

Any Synthetic in the 0 to 5 range. AS Shanndow posted a youtube showing pennzoil the winner for flow.
