I've been using Libre Office for years now with good success but I was curious if there is a markedly better option out there these days? I've used open office in the past which was fine as well.

The best/ most popular alternative to LibreOffice/ OpenOffice is probably OnlyOffice (Community Edition) - https://www.onlyoffice.com/compare-editions.aspx
There are online offerings as well, plenty of them. Among the leaders would be (the free tiers of) Google, Microsoft and Zoho.

ok so only office seems confusing what am I missing.
The download page is unfriendly. If I cant decipher it I would say most cant.
There is docker image, a linux download, windows server..
why would I need it on a server?
I guess I need to backtrack and find a FAQ type page or stick with libreoffice.

Haven't found anything better than Libre Office.
They could probably stand to hire a better UX designer; especially with a freemium model and being open source: A recipe for confusion.
