We've all spent time on hold, it's close to inevitable these days . Some hold music is really bad. Some is good. Personally, my favorite hold music is this- it's from Time Warner Cable's Buffalo NY call centers. By far the nicest hold music I've ever heard. It's very relaxing to me, which I feel is what you want in hold music. So who has the best hold music in your opinion that you've heard?

Well, anything without words is better hold music and better background music in stores. I hate hearing garbage music in stores, but when I wear an earbud off my MP3 player, I don't usually notice unless they have it very loud.

I remember the music on one teleconferencing system. Many people commented that it sounded like the music from 1980s low budget porn. Not that they had ever seen such a movie.. it just captured the essence of the idea

I like the ones that just beep every few seconds to let me know I haven't been disconnected.

Time warner cable ...LOL... Worst company ever!

My cable has been has been messed up for over half the year. They still can't get it right and then raise the rates? What a joke.

Hopefully you haven't paid for any of that time.

Ha, nice one.

I like it when they play Muzak versions of real songs, sometimes you'll get a real surprise. Heard Metallica's instrumental "Orion" once.

When I used to work for a guitar manufacturer I'd often got compliments on the hold music. It was always that company's artists so it was often John Petrucci, Jimmy Eat World, NoFx, Albert Lee... A wide variety and you never new what was next.

None was the usual boring hold music. I even had a guy ask to be put back on hold until the song finished!

Glad I don't have to call Time Warner....a few minutes of that, and I'm ready to eat a bullet....

I think most will agree that the best hold music is that which you listen to LEAST. Even the stuff that is pleasant gets old after a few minutes.

I always get a chuckle when hold / elevator / background music is something that was "radical" in its time.

(Like a little T-Rex)

I guess that's because companies think paying people to twiddle their thumbs is to be avoided at all costs. The result is occasional excessive hold times. That also means that C/S reps are often stressed and don't do the best job since they are graded on the number of calls they handle and not the quality of their service. All in all, a pretty poor picture. What's worse is that after all that holding, in the name of being cheap, you might get someone named "Chip" who barely speaks English and always says, "I can help you with that issue," but really can't.

Banks are the worst about that one. I called Citi recently and a sista answered who`s ghetto slang and ebonics were so thick,I had to tell her to either speak proper English or connect to a supervisor. And this was a corporate bank! Soooooooooooo pathetic!!!!!!!!!
