I got rid of my outdated Spy Sweeper program yesterday. It slowed my pc down a lot and I did not buy any updates for it for the last 2 years. Does anyone know of any good, reliable anti spyware programs I can download for free?

Thanks.

I use Ad-Aware for spyware, Win Patrol for the windows system, Zone Alarm for the firewall, and Avast! for everything else. All are free versions. I also recommend CCleaner and Defraggler. I send the CCleaner folks $20 a year, because they always seem to have an update.
I suggest this order.
1. Ad Aware and run it.
2. Avast!, run it.
3. CCleaner, run the cleaner for both programs and windows. The run the registry cleaner. Save a copy of your registry to the desktop. Then tell it to fix all the problems.
4. Win Patrol, install it.
5. Defraggler to defragment your hard drive.
You should notice a tremendous improvement right away.

SpywareBlaster (blocker), Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, SAS,
a-squared, PREVX. CCleaner for cleanup, Auslogics Defrag (after much testing of many) including Defraggler and MyDefrag (bug city). But, and it's a big but all of the above bar Spywareblaster are too late as PC is already infected. These days you need to keep the stuff out and that's a different ballgame altogether.

These days, your internet provider usually has anti-virus and spyware software you can use as part of the internet service. They have regular updates too.
