A bit more info? Are you trying to extend or? Any problems you are trying to correct? M1 gear oil is a good choice for synthetic and there are plenty of conventional ones out there. Many here like Redline gear oil.

Because I don't want to have to pay for a membership to buy Amsoil. I have in the past.... Nothing against them, quality product.

Redline, duh

There is no "best" diff fluid that any of us could suggest because we have zero ability to understand the unique application you're in. To really declare something "best", a very long series of trials and testing would need to be performed specific to your application, and as much as BITOGers love to push their favorite flavor onto others, the reality is that none of us have the time/money/resources to declare something "best" over the alternatives.

However ...

There are MANY very good diff fluids which will more than suffice for your application. I'm not directly familiar with your veh requirements, but as long as you use a properly spec'd fluid, you'll be fine.

There is a LONG list of fluids that meet the stringent gear oil standard listed here in the links of this post:
https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/gl-5-and-j2360.197713/
Follow both links and you'll understand the J2360 testing and then see the lubes that qualify.

I will also note that there are many conventional lubes that meet these same specs, so syns are not going to be "better", but they would most likely last "longer".

I now return you to our regularly scheduled brand-bias lube bigotry ...

GM do a very good on that has a factory part #9986290. I know that there are several reblends Shell, Chevron, etc it's way better on oxidation and low temperature than the previous product. If you want it but can't find it let me know. Look on GMDexron.com and you can find the list of approved reblends

For available right away over the counter. That you can get from almost any part store . Hand down is Mobil 1

For online order . Amsoil

I preferd Mobil 1 since its good and I can get it any time I want .

Mobil 1 or Redline, usually I use M1 because it's easier to find. Doing the Sport Trac's rear diff later today with M1 75w-140,

100% agree

Differential Gear Oils and Differentials themselves, are not a fluid/unit that I have ever had any issues with. I have used many store brand and name brand gear oils along with Mobil 1(75w90LS). All without any issues to speak of!
