People on YouTube seem to prefer a large 12 inch fry pan with a glass cover. What do you guys use?

I make a lot of rice of various types: white, brown, long, short, and medium grain. Japanese, basmati, jasmine, etc.

I always use a heavy-bottomed, fully-clad, stainless pot with a tight-fitting lid. Many folks use a dedicated rice cooker which is an excellent choice, especially for someone who doesn't understand how to properly cook rice or who wants the convenience of not having to think much about the process.

I sometimes bake my rice, but that's another experience altogether.

In any case, timing and rice/liquid ratios are important if you want excellent results. Also important is how you prepare the rice for cooking. Quite a few people follow package directions and idiots on YouTube and end up with mediocre rice at best.

What type of rice do you expect to cook, and in what style?

We have a wall steam oven and put rice in a glass dish with broth for 25 minutes. And the dish doesn’t get covered since it’s in a steam oven.

Purchased just for rice and best pot I have ever used. Non stick high sides sealed lid.

We cook rice like pasta about twice a week in a 5 qt stainless steel saucepan. Boil water, add rice, cook until tender and drain in a fine colander. Pot goes straight in the dishwasher and the colander gets a quick rinse. Easy peasy perfect rice.

Nothing to it. I go old school with a pot and lid.
2:1 ratio of liquid to rice (water or broth)
Bring liquid to boil.
Add rice, stir, return to boil, reduce heat to simmer and cover.
Simmer for 20 minutes.
Fluff rice with a fork and serve.

If you just want to make plain white rice a rice cooker is easier. But we never use one in this house, Mexican rice is only possible to make in a pan.

I used to use a pot but after watching numerous Uncle Roger videos I wanted to get an electric rice cooker. A local casino had a rice cooker giveaway a couple years ago so I made sure to get one. It's just a cheap rice cooker that looks identical to this one. https://www.amazon.com/Aroma-6-Cup-...1698069494&sprefix=rice+cooker,aps,130&sr=8-3

It works really good so I've held off buying the Uncle Roger approved Zojirushi.

We've used a Zojurushi rice cooker for years and it makes perfect rice every time. The only downside is it takes longer, especially brown rice which takes a couple of hours as it soaks and simmers it before cooking it.

Recently, I've started using an Instant Pot pressure cooker and that works awesome. For white rice, you use a 1 to 1 rice to water ratio, pressure cook on high for 3 minutes and let sit for 10 minutes to finish steaming at high pressure.

Asian style rice cooker works for steamed rice. I haven't tried our Instant Pot for steamed rice (it has a steamed rice setting), but have experimented with it for rice porridge.
