Best car movie

A lot of my favorites were mentioned, Bullit, Ronin, Mad Max, French Connection, etc. But there is one that no one mentioned, that set a new paradigm after Bullit: "To Live and Die in LA". Check it out if your looking for movie with a great car chase scene. Interesting movie with a nice twist at the end.

My vote is for Two Lane Blacktop! I love the great (and realistic) street race scene in the very beginning. It makes me want to go light em' up.

Heh... Great topic. As a recent netflix un-subscriber (Ran out of time to watch movies) I have to throw in my $0.02.

Blues Brothers is as much a car movie as a music movie. Dan Aykroyd is a notorious car buff, and he meticulously specified what the car would be like. Until Blues Bros. 2K (a piece of diarrhea if there ever was...) it held the record for most cars crashed in a movie. In the scene where the Nazis go over the freeway, they actually dropped the pinto from a helo.

Smokey and the Bandit, already mentioned

The Wraith was quite a badass movie.

Bullitt, again, quite a badass movie.

BUT.... Even if it was about big rigs...

MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE

The steven king written B movie with emilio estevez, about aliens who posess cars and other mechanical things, and use big rigs to hold people hostage and cause general mayhem? That was a pretty good movie.

I have a couple of nominations for Most Stupid Car Chase -

Cobra, with Stallone in his 49 Merc leadsled acting like Ricky Roadracer

and Last Action Hero, where a crew of nasties standing in the bed of a 56 Ford pickup with machine guns careen through the streets of L.A. in pursuit of Ahnold.
