Per another post of mine, my 05 accord is getting a remanufactured engine.

Per the shop, they suggest a 10w30 conventional oil for the first 1k, then change oil and filter again with conventional to 5k, then if I want out synthetic in it or stay with conventional.

Just wanted the bitog communities thoughts on this

Thanks in advance

How about adding this? Not sure it's that great to use long-term, but up to the first oil change shouldn't poison the cat.

I remember a coworker who was told at the dealer to let his Accord's factory oil go the full 7500 miles before the first oil change. He drove it 3 miles to work, drove another car for long trips, and it took over 2 years before he got to that mileage. I'm not sure that was the greatest idea. I remember with my WRX it was drilled that the factory fill had to go 3000 miles (or max 6 months), and I did my first change with exactly 3000 on the odo.

X2 it's so rich in additives for protection, but no friction modifiers so the rings will set really quick..

Many reman engines come tested. No need for a "break - in" oil.

I typically prelube an engine and fire it up. I don't usually add anything either, unless it has an aftermarket cam (I do use assembly lube). The last Jeep 4.0L I did fired up on Quaker State 10W30 conventional.

Follow the shops advice, it sounds pretty good to me, but make sure you use the right weight oil all the way. Really bad idea to use a thicker oil if the engine runs 5w20. Depending on the oil, that is a 20 to 25% viscosity change at operating temps between 5w20 and 10w30.
