Really? I didn't have to spend the extra buck to find metal end caps on my ST. I found sturdy metal end caps on my $2.50 ST.

Proof that the makers of the orange can could do it if they chose to. That said, the traditional ST's with metal endcaps are becoming more scarce now with the advent of the Ecore.

Generally, and there may be a couple of exceptions, the older metal endcap style is limited to the ST 3in. diameter or less filter apps.

All ST's back to $2.84 here, still reasonable.

I dont care for the E-core and would personally take the Chinese filters over them. What dont you guys like about the Chinese filters such as Viper, they can be had for about $2.00 (other than the country of orgin)?

As said above by sayjac ... metal end caps in STs is not as common as not. Dig it while you can.

"Many"? AFAIK, >3in. dia.maybe 1-3 apps tops. Bottom line, majority ST apps are now Ecore. And, for those who also like ST's Ecore, that's not been an issue. Only reason it's pointed to now, is because some expressed preference for metal endcaps.

Once or twice a year I buy my filters from Amazon. PureOne filters for my car come in a two pack for $9.48, I toss it in when I'm already buying something from there to take advantage of the free shipping.

I then use the rebate that Purolator always seems to have going on to take another $2 off each filter.

Two Purolator PureOne filters for $2.74 each, that's tough to beat.

I will say this though, if I need to change the oil and don't have a filter on hand, I wont hesitate to go to the small locally owned auto shop and pick up a filter. Even though it costs a buck or two more there than at the Advance Auto that's closer, I like supporting a locally owned business
