Hi all. First time poster. I have lurked quite some time reading up on oils etc I have ran in previous vehicles. But now I have a real question. I picked up a justy ECVT 4wd in the spring with a bad transmission. I replaced it last week and all seems well so far however these are known to be problematic. One of the main problems is that the variable Pulleys wear into the shafts they slide on when driven at consistent speeds for long periods. It has an electromagnetic clutch so there is no torque converter. It has pretty regular auto trans valve body and a Van Dorme chain style cvt common these days although unheard of when this car was built.

My question is this: it specs dex II as the ATF. It had wear problems with this obviously. I installed Mobil 1 ATF and a new filter when the trans was installed. Of course now there are cvt specific fluids, and I don't know if they would be better or worse than the Mobil 1 ATF? Is the Mobil 1 going to give me much metal wear performance above the original spec dex II? Obviously there was no cvt specific fluid at the time so perhaps they have learned and going with a cvt specific would increase life?

Wow! such a popular car!

I had a tomato red Justy 3 door, but it had the MT. Fun li'l 3 cyl bugger and one of 6 or seven subarus owned through the end of the last century. Dont think you'll get too many responses from here, maybe call subaru or stop by a subaru service center and see if they can dig anything up from the ancient archives. You can try this guy - my subaru master tech:
