Best anti-sludge from these two?

So as many of you know - my Pontiac Vibe with the 1zz-fe engine is pretty sludged up (pics in my "Sludged 1zz" thread) from being a fleet car in previous ownership. So I do not plan on buying any more oil, because I got quite a stash at the moment already. So in my stash I have Pennzoil Ultra SRT with "Hyper Cleaning" additive or whatever it is, and I got some Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w30. So I figured that I will use only these two oils in this engine until I run out, with short 2500-3000 oil change intervals. Comes out pitch black everytime so far with such OCI.
I know that Pennzoil Conventional is praised to be super awesome cleaning oil, but PP is even better, and PUP is the magic unicorn juice that cleans like no other. But how does Pennzoil Ultra Platium 0w40 compare to Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w30 in terms of sludge cleaning power?? If you had to pick between the two in a sludged up engine - which one would you pick?

I would say they will both clean similarly, however The oil should still be good and cleaning at 3k miles. I would leave it in for 5k and just change out lower-mid tier filters every 2500 such as a Fram OC or a Supertech. Or run 5k OCI's with a better filter such as a Fram TG or Pureone.

How hard is it to take the oil pan off? It's possible if you do something crazy to "shock" it , you will be plugging up the oil pickup

similar story here.. i read this a year or so ago and have used what they use. napa carburetor cleaner and it melts the sludge

I havent seen before and after pics of oils cleaning this kind of baked on sludge..

You want to dissolve it gradually, if you get in there & start digging it out manually, plan on pulling the pan to clean it, or you'll jam up the pickup & lose oil pressure/spin a rod bearing, etc. The PUP shouldn't hurt anything, but use a premium filter & don't run it very long. That's why I like Pennzoil conventional, it's dirt cheap!

If you can wait, regular changes will do it overtime.

If you can't wait, fill it to the brim with diesel or brake cleaner or a mix of both, leave for 24 hours with a pan heater on it then drain and it will be as clean as the day it was a brand new untouched casting

This...remove and clean the pan/ pick up...and I would use the 5w30 for cleaning. 3K mile OCI should be good too. I know bitog doesn't like motor medic 5 min flush, but I would use half a bottle at every OCI for the next 4 OCIs. I've done it in multiple sludged vehicles I've owned w zero problem

My 2c: If its a 5 qt sump, I'd do 4 QT Supertec Conv and 1 QT Kreen with a cheap filter, run it for 2 to 3K, closely monitoring oil level. I wouldnt waste higher end oils in such an engine until its cleaner.

Many people like to believe in regular oil changes having the ability to clean. We have yet to see it on this board.

Supetech synthetic and the biggest filter that will physically fit ... I would not use premium oils to clean a sludged motor.

Unless, you are willing to let it happen as a matter of course? Then I'd use the PUP and also the largest filter that will fit. Do regular 5K changes and not worry about the sludge. It'll be mostly gone in 50,000 miles

8 oz of Kreen per change will help things along...

Regular oil changes hopefully is not going to make it any worse. But yeah I would like to see if Pennzoil cleaned up that mess. Would be funny to use Pennzoil to clean up Pennzoil sludge. Just saying cause there is a chance the sludge is at least part Pennzoil.

From that other thread, apparently, you have started the sludge removal process. How is that progressing?

I am not sure if PH3600 filter size fit in that Pontiac but it fits a lot of the Toyota.

I would just do a short OCI as you have been doing with any oil you have.

Did you replace the PCV?

It sounds like you have the perfect stash and test mule. Pick the oil you think will do the best job and go for it with a few short OCI's. If that doesn't work either try another brand of oil or there are a few good additives you can try. Molakule feels Rislone would be a good choice, I think so too considering its long history. I'd be very interested in hearing how that works for you, especially since I have no recent experiences with it.

Rislone is a bit more benign than Kreen - so it would be good too
