Maybe it's just me, but the "Utopias" stuff seems like a total marketing gimmick. On the one hand, S.A. pushes itself as a traditional German-style brewer (ie, brag about the Rheinheitsgebot, "quality" over "quantity," sending their brewmasters to the Doemens Academy, etc.)...but then they create a slew of odd-ball "seasonal" beers and stuff like "Utopias" that isn't of any German style. Don't get me wrong, as I'll drink plain ol' Sam Adams over other "national" beers (like at sporting events or entertainment venues). But it seems like they're trying too hard.
Plus, I was watching some special on brewing on The History Channel or Discovery and...I'm not kidding here...Jim Koch said "Sam Adams" in every other sentence during a five minute interview. Reminded me of when athletes say "you know" non-stop. And then of course, they'll sue anybody who uses the words "Sam Adams" in a domain name...even people named "Sam Adams."
