We have a supplier near Buffalo NY. Everyone who visits, goes off about beef and weck sandwiches. Are they that good?

Quote:
It is a roast beef sandwich on a salty kummelweck roll. In fact, it is this roll that makes the sandwich unique. Made only in the Buffalo-Rochester area, the kummelweck—often alternatively spelled kimmelweck—is basically a Kaiser roll topped with lots of pretzel salt and caraway seeds. Kummelweck is simply shortened to “weck.” The sandwich is usually served with sinus-clearing horseradish (you can tell a native Buffalonian by the amount of horseradish he or she used), a couple of huge kosher dill pickle slices on the side, and extra beef juice served straight from the roast. Wash it all down with a cold, locally brewed ale

I've never had or seen one. But after reading that description I will be looking!

As a native Buffalonian, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are indeed that good. The beef is melty-tender and the salt on the top of the roll makes it wonderful. Fresh horseradish and a cold Labatt's and you're in heaven.
Then for dinner, you can have a beer-battered fish fry!

By the way, it's Beef on Weck, you don't want to look like a tourist, do you.

Yes, it is excellent. Add in wings and a fish fry and you'll see why people choose to live there.

Off-topic: I just inherited NY as part of my sales territory and will be "going home" in a way to prospect/sell in Buffalo. Can't wait.

And if you think YOU have an accent, go to B-Lo. Mine has gone away after about 14 years but it's still going strong up there.

I'll be going next week and will be eating all the wings I can.
