Beam me up, Scotty!

James Doohan,a.k.a. Scotty from the Star Trek series, died today at the age of 85. Im not a trekkie but i did enjoy the show and the movies. I thought his cameo in "Space Balls" was funny as h***. I didnt know till today that he was in the D-Day invasion on Juno beach. He was hit by 6 bullets fired from a German machine gun and lived. WOW! Good Luck in the final frontier, Scotty!

He had Alziemers and pneumonia.

Reminds me of the bumper sticker:

"Beam me up, Scotty this planet sucks"

Unlike lots of actors that become famous for one role, then pretend to resent being typecast, Doohan was proud of his work and thoroughly enjoyed it and the fame it brought him. He sounded like a real human being.

Wow ..first Deforest Kelly ..now Doohan

I remember (yes, I'm this old ..or still have that good a memory

or do I) Deforest Kelly on an episode of Rt. 66. He was older when Star Trek first aired. Shatner on (I think) the Twilight Zone ..Nemoy on The Lt. ....one of them on (I'm not sure which) The Untouchables.

Anyone who can enjoy making a living doing a parady of himself is OK in my book.

My wife was watching an old Bonanza rerun last week and a young Shatner was in it.
