BC 5W40 (Belgium Castrol)

I have seen a VOA and some associated commentary for BC, but I cannot find a used oil analysis. Can anyone direct me to any data on the Belgium-made 5W40? In the commentary there were several comments about Mg being to high and the possibility of abrasive Mg salts. I followed several related threads suggesting that especially in Diesels Mg may be problematic. Anyone know if BC performed well in Gas engines? I've got a few OCIs worth of the stuff and am trying to figure out what to do with it.

By the way, I found that for every AZ stop that I have made while hauling BC with me I have found GC Green! Three stops with BC, three GC Green successes. One stop without BC in the van, no GC Green - just the old yellow lable.

I was in autozone today. Both 0w30(made in germany) and 5w40(made in USA) were labeled as European forumulas. Looks like the BC may be gone.

If you don't want to use it, send it to me! Seriously, is your car going to roll over and die because you use a few OCIs worth of European Castrol motor oil? I doubt it. But if you insist, I'll take the chance and dump it into the crankcase of one of my BMWs. Then I'll spend the oil money on **** Danger Ale.

Sending my BC across the country was not originally on my list of "things to do with it".

I have about two changes worth of it and I would not hesitate to use it...just haven't felt like breaking away from the Elegant Elixer to do so. The Elves tell me that while the Belgians are better at making chocolate, their oil certainly isn't bad.

As you can see from the thread above, I was not able to get much data. In another thread (linked below), I've described what I decided to do with my BC. I have just bottled the used oil to send out. I haven't mailed it yet. If you have an application for a 40wt, I would not hesitate to use BC. However, I don't know that I would pay "regular price" for BC at this point.

Advance Auto now carries 5W40 Castrol(they had a big sign out there promoting it)...the quarts I looked at were all Belgium made...AZ net door had the US made stuff

Have we figured out what exactly AC is, ie. is it a full synthetic or is it a GRP III / PAO blend? How does it stack up to GC...just curious. Cheers DV

It's more volatile than GC (results in my volatility thread) and it loses quite a bit of viscosity. My engine developed oil consumption with it so I drained it early at around 3500 miles. Yeah, not good news.

American 5W-40 Syntec. Sorry!
I realized my post probably makes this oil out to be worse than it is. It just had really tough competition (GC, Lubromoly xW-40, Mobil 1 10W-40 MX4T, etc) and my engine is an oil bruiser. It's pretty good oil but not the best for its price.
