Went to Battery mart today to get a couple of batteries for a tractor @ work. The employee pulled the new batteries off of a pallet full of batteries then stuck this months date code sticker on them.

Wonder how long those batteries were sitting on that pallet?

Most warranties are off the sales receipt date. I’m not sure about getting worried about the tag date. Hey, maybe picking with an old tag date sticker is better because your battery might not make it through the free replacement period and bingo, new free battery. :p

at the dealership we're supposed to charge the batteries each month until the car or battery is sold. So far there hasn't been any follow up from the importer so this doesn't get done but at a previous brand they required to see the midtronics tests for each month.

Maybe they recharge batteries that are there for a set period aswell, for warranty purposes.

It’s to their advantage to keep them in good shape waiting to be sold. They want you to make it past the warranty period so they don’t have to give you a free battery.

Not nearly as long as they were sitting in the warehouse prior

No, it’s not. Geez why do so many people think this?
Because every time I buy a battery they etch in todays date and if there is a warranty It’s based on the date they put on the battery

There (usually) though not always is another mark or sticker (code) on the battery that is there denoting the actual manufacturing date but I’ve never seen that code on the recons i buy

I think I relayed my experience at a dealer where they couldn't really find one in a particular model to test drive that would start without a jump. Then I proceeded to stall it a half block away. I got a proper test drive when we got back and identified one that actually had a charge.

I've been to some dealers where I saw a rolling charger being used on the lot. I guess it's not too bad with maybe a 20 amp charger.

Interstate is supposed to check batteries every couple of months and take back unsold inventory to be recharged, with charged batteries replacing them.
