Bathroom ventilation fan not working

Those refit scan be found at Home Depot. I like those fans for certain vent duties in structures, but we recently refit a Panasonic in the place of an identical one to what you show and it's wonderful. You cannot hear it operating.

As others have said, lack of continuity with good spinning points to thermal fuse. Why? Who knows why. I'd suspect some bad insulation or a high impedance conductor in there for some reason.

Take the opportunity to put in a Panasonic as others have said. It really is a good decision if it's a commonly used bathroom that gets a lot of showers taken in it.

The module was OEM and fit in exactly like it should.

Panasonic or other high end fans would have completely different design correct? Is there a chance that guts of Panasonic could have fit in the existing housing? Is there any standardization in the industry?

Hardware from a Panasonic wouldn't bolt right up. The squirrel cage fans on them are huge in comparison to a Broan, etc..

The winding on the motor is riveted down to the housing and there is no access to the couple of thingies which look like thermal devices. Once I took off the plastic fan, it now slides up and down axially, so it eventually will hit the motor base and will make noise even if the motor were to be fixed. So I couldn't salvage that one either. Apart from the fan and the motor, rest of the assembly is great

So I had to give it a proper burial in my garbage bag.

The existing hole in the ceiling is circular (15" dia). I find no round Panasonic fans. So unless I am willing to redo the ceiling, I guess I am married to the Broan/Nutone fans.
