Baldwin or Hastings

Are Baldwin (B1402) and Hastings (LF240) oil filters the same filter with a different name ? I did a web search and it appears that may be the case ?

I would guess that Baldwin should be better especially when the fancy media filters are chosen. I think it is the HPG line

Made by doesn't the same as. I bought a Pronto filter made by Hastings, and it has a lousy done end bypass. Motorcraft is made by Purolator, but has a thread end bypass.

I do believe you are correct. If I had the choice though I'd stick with the Baldwin. From what I understand Hastings is the "economy" line for Baldwin. Hastings are still probably very good filters(at least from my experience) but I'm sure there are some differences, otherwise Baldwin would have just slapped their name on them. There's got to be a reason they've kept the brand a seperate name.

Clarcor owns Baldwin and Hastings--and Purolator industrial air and hydraulic filters but not Purolator automotive filters. An engineer at Clarcor told me that Baldwin and Hastings filters are identical. Baldwin filters are mainly marketed to the industrial market and Hasting mainly to the auto market. They also make lower cost/quality filters...Casite being one of their cheapo lines.

Lots of mergers, sell offs, and acquisitions in the filter end of things. DANA sold WIX to a financial company ..probably composed of officers of DANA ..perhaps to save it from the weight carried by the core company. It's the same elsewhere in the industry.

I guess Champ appears to be intact ..and Fram is so far away from its Providence, RI origins it's laughable.

Baldwin / Hastings are one in the same.
Made at the same factory in Kearney Nebraska.
Different paint job is all.
Casite is Hastings "economy brand". (and quite a decent filter line in itself btw)
Casite is actually built in the same Kearney plant as Baldwin / Hastings.
