Through the place I work at, I can get Baldwin filters for really cheap. Mentioned it to my buddy and he said to get a case of filters for his 4.8 chevy, I change his oil every 5k miles and it seems like a waste to keep using Fram Ultras and TG's like I've been doing. My question is, although the Baldwins seem well built, are the efficiency ratings good? I read on here somewhere posted that the efficiency is no better than the AC Delco PF48 that the 4.8 Vortec calls for. Any truth to that? If so, I think they would be more than good for a 5k oil change. My other question is, if he would decide to let the OLM run down to 0%, should the Baldwin be capable of handling it, even with a nitrile ADBV? Most Baldwins seem to have louvers instead of holes, should that pose a flow problem? The filter is a B160. I can get a dozen filters for $34. Thanks guys

Based upon what I see on the Baldwin site, the efficiency seems to be fairly low, though the efficiency for the B160 filter is not shown.

Nah, get the best filters you can afford, unless you are about to sell the car.

OEM if possible, or something made in Germany or made by Mobil, but not from Fleabay.

Baldwin are great filters. Efficiency is not all there is to filtering. It's one aspect, and it has to do with what you want to trap ...

Filter efficiency goes up with use and there are many studies and such that state you should leave in place for two oil changes at least. Baldwin will certainly hold up to prolonged use w/o breaking down internally

Baldwin are my second choice to WIX (Napa Gold)

Fram TG are prolly the most sensible if you are going to change filter every time ...

BrocLuno, should I just stick to the Tough Guard and not worry about buying a case of Baldwins? I cut open a Baldwin BT223 today that was on a lawnmower at work with 44 hrs on the oil and filter. very thick can, filter element looked like it could go much longer, and the nitrile adbv was still pliable, even after all those high air cooled engine oil temps.

Baldwin filters will be fine for the OCI suggested by your OLM, even down to 0%. Baldwin has the best louvers. They actually know how to make a slotted center tube, so nothing to worry about

Here is a Hastings I cut a few months ago (Hastings is the same as Baldwin). Their slots are MUCH better than Fram and Purolator!

My preference is either round holes, or Baldwin/Hastings

^^^ Yep ... nice louvers. Wish all the filter makers could make then that well.

One thing about Baldwin, you don't sell to farmers and truckers and stay in business for 70+ years if your product is inferior. Use Baldwin filters with confidence.
