Bald Eagles

Our dog is 10lbs and I never leave her out there alone. I've seen some giant hawks literally fly right over my head as I take her outside. One time I saw one eating another bird on a tree right in our driveway. Big hawks.

We don't have Harpy Eagles here but that is the only Eagle I'm aware of that could lift 10Lbs from a dead stop but eagles try to keep up as much speed as possible when attacking.

We had a red-tailed hawk in our old, inner-city neighborhood that liked to clear the area of pigeons. More than once we caught the hawk swoop out of nowhere, hit a pigeon, cause an explosion of feathers, and then a dead pigeon laying on the neighbor's front steps.

Same here only it is Coopers hawks and they also kill just about any other kind of bird as well.

My son and I saw what looked like a goshawk go in and attempt an attack on a bald eagle nest yesterday. Either that or just went into the wrong stand of trees at the wrong time. The hawk went in one side, came careening out the other side followed closely by one eagle while another eagle took off behind. The had a little tussle midair over the lake and the hawk made its escape. Was pretty cool to see those birds in action.

Years ago spotted a Bald Eagle carrying a fish that was being harassed by a few Crows . The Bald Eagle dropped it :( . Never forget that site .

A couple places we lived they were around our house. Can be messy eaters, animal parts on the roof and such. Also we usually have an Osprey near by as well. They have a cooler dive pattern. The best gliders here are the ever present Turkey Vultures. Not from Turkey nor do they prey on turkeys.

We should hail the strong return of the Bald Eagle and other raptors.

We have a resident Bald Eagle to the SW of us, talking all the time squealing at me this AM. Oddly they don't seem to take chickens, ducks or guinea fowl.

only spotted my first here recently (have seen up north/Canada) … we don’t have the tall pine forests like east Texas - so did some searching … come to find out some were nesting by a nearby fish farm and the owner just accepted he was going to feed a few 😷
