Bad crank timing, or no spark?

Well, I have replaced the head, headgasket, manifold gasket, etc., after a thorough cleaning. Got all of my wiring and vacuum lines back installed, got good cam timing, good intermediate timing, and what I thought was good crank timing (marks lined up as close as humanly possible with mark in transmission to 0). Got new Champion plugs even.

Went to start it up, and nada. Battery still good, wiring and vacuum lines all rechecked. I checked coil resistance, good, checked the connector that plugs into the bottom of the coil, got voltage. No error codes in the computer either. I get fuel in the throttle body, so I think the Hall Effect is still good. I do not know if I am getting spark, though. Any ideas?

Also, how do I know if I am at Compression TDC or Exhaust TDC?

Any other ideas of what and where to check?

IIRC. The hall effect sensor does not controll the fuel delivery in this engine, spark only.

You need to check for spark either by getting a helper to crank while you get shocked by a plug wire or you can remove the dist cap and while holding the coil wire near a ground, with the key "on" you can move a small piece of metal through the sensor and you should get a spark out the coil wire when you do.

Are you 100% POSITIVE the cam timing is correct? Did you install the distributor correctly, when the #1 cylinder was at TDC, or did you mark the rotor postion with the distributor base AND mark the cylinder head as well? If you know that the distributor is in correctly, and the cam timing is correct, TDC compression will be where the rotor in the distrubutor is pointing at the terminal for that cylinder. Other than that, with a 4 cylinder, I dunno if you can even get your fingers over the plug holes. That's the easiest way to find TDC compression; just feel for pressure as the piston is coming up.
 
omg i had that engine... it used to jump timing all the time.. when it had around 75k-80k it started to loose all power. then started that jumping timing issue... talk about an nightmare.. I wish you luck.
