Thank you...thank you...

All of the parts were ordered from Summitt racing, except base and bracket, so all part numbers are active. I actually order the un-coated clamps but after I looked at the red ones they did look cool.

Quick question. What does Dodge think of the BP when you go in for service? Or have you yet? I know some posts last year had some real bad horror stories of denied warrantees on engines with BP filters installed.

Have not been to the dealer yet, the only thing I have serviced is the transmission...everything else I do.

"I would be interested to hear that by filtering the oil 'better' and using a 'port' that is supplied by the engine mfg would alter the warranty...would be a VERY interesting conversation."

(if you knew the issues I had with dealer in past years and how I am part of their training on how to deal with an irate customer you could appreciate the last statement....ask sometime it involves a gun and my car keys!)

Well......A long time ago in a dealer in ...

I just wanted to get a larger truck, my family was getting bigger and it was my turn to get the newer vehicle....I searched the lots found the truck I wanted and had all the cash I could get via a pre approved loan.
My salesman was happy to seat all 4 of us and get all the basic info, he then asked to look at my vehicle and took my keys (meanwhile he insisted that if a deal could not be made we could part...no pressure here!)
When the results were finally in they decided to under value the truck by $5000, I laughed and said no deal just give me my keys and I will be back in a few months. Ahhh yea we do not know where the keys are??? the manager has them...the lead mechanic has them....the lot guy has them and went to lunch...
Being home only two or three days every two weeks I valued my time...I asked the manager very politly to get my keys and just let me leave...no harm no foul (meanwhile my wife was trying to explain to the salesman that I was getting irritated, imagine that after 3 hours. ohh did I mentioned how he made a improper remark to my wife...how attractive she was)
So after another 30 minutes of sitting the manager finally came over and said I could not leave until we made a deal...:snap: I asked my wife very nicely for the extra keys...as I walked out the door the Sales guy said ' What is he gonna leave you..hahahahaha.......My wife knew I carried a pistol, she laughed, they all laughed and I returned!
Have you ever seen a 6'6" 250 lbs irate idiot with a handgun.....Needless to say the keys appeared and we all lived happily ever after.....but wait, I did buy a van from them last year and got the best deal I EVER got....The manager laughed and told the finance chick the story, she said they use me as a training aid...

Imagine that!

I have a dumb question. Isn't -3AN 3/16" I.D.? I thought 1/4" I.D. was the preferred hose size. If so, then -4AN should be used. Then again, the restrictor hole on the B50 filter is 1/8". So I guess it really wouldn't matter if it was -3AN then, huh? Am I over analyzing this?

_3an is 1/4"....at least what I was told. I also went with the -3an because it made the Earl's brake lines more economical and available.

Hmm ..3AN is 3/16. 3/16, 4/16, 6/16, 8/16, 12/16, 16/16, 20/16 ..and so on.. Now some of the numbers get screwy when you're reading the actual thread size and try and integrate them to AN numbers. A 3/4-16 (thread side) is for a #8 line (1/2"). NPT:AN is easier to handle ..but AN:straight thread is misleading since you're looking at the size of the port you're inserting it into ..and not the ID of the fitting you're inserting.

That is, your #3 line probably used a 1/4" NPT threaded end. The next step down is 1/8" NPT ..which is way too small.

First, NICE job Shup1 !

I'm looking at adding the B-50 to my 1996 Buick Park Avenue. Correct me, but I do believe that the restrictor hole in the center of the B-50 is way smaller than 1/8" (0.125") it is actually 1/16" (0.0625"). I just happen to have a B50 in the house and used my dial calipers to check it out. Also in past conversations with Baldwin Filters in Kearney, NE, I was told the restrictor hole is 1/16".

I see used braided line for the return (low pressure side) to the cap. I am thinking of returning oil to the cap, but without the braided line. I believe I can get by with some clear vinyl tubing if it is resistant to oil and petroleum products (gasoline). And, if so the line can be 1/4" ID or smaller all the way down to probably 1/8" ID. It's impractical, because I don't think I could find a fitting, but I could use similar sized hose that one uses for smaller aquarium setups to get the oil from filter housing to the oil cap.

Warranty can't be voided because of the bypass filter. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Check it out at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson-Moss_Warranty_Act
Much discussions too about the warranty and oils/filters, and lead to one conclusion... basically, that if you drive in a normal fashion (no using your Dodge for plowing and discing fields, etc) and you use fairly proper oil (again THEY have to prove you did not) you are pretty safe with putting on a BP filter system. The burden of proof lies with the mfg/dealership. They cannot specify what filter to use, what oil to use and can only "recommend" change intervals. Big word difference between recommend and "required" too.

just my 2 cents.

Nebrasken...we were talking about the line size on 'an' fitting...but you are right with your estimate on oriface on filter.

I used the braided line for a few reasons:
1. Cause it is 4K psi rated
2. It does look good with billet clamps.
3. Price was right and no worries on leaks due to wear, pinch ect.

As for the issue with warranty I have the truck in the shop right now, about $13k in damage due to front end collision, the shop had no issue witht the bypass setup (as a matter of fact guy is interested in my used oil analysis before and after) and no mention of issue with Super Tuner (had to tell them in case they put on comupter, just placed in performance mode before wreck). figure if they want to go to the mats over it I have most of my ducks in a row

Thanks for the comp on setup..btw, got filters online for under $6 a piece with shipping.

Just curious about one thing, and this is probably off topic for this thread but does relate to BP set ups. I notice on my Buick PA when I have the oil filter off the other day that there appears to be a small "plug" similar to that plug I had on the GM bypass sandwich unit. Is this a bypass valve built into the regular filter mount?
