awesome A380 flyover

Sunday, we were driving home from a weekend at Manly, and were stuck at the spit bridge which was letting a boat through.

Which was convenient, as it was the moment that QANTAS and Emirates staged a flyover of the harbour bridge with two A380s.

They flew directly over us, although having broken formation, they were climbing some and turning out to sea.

Talking to a guy at work who has a relative pilot who flies the A380s, it took 6 months to get approval from the safety authorities, and one of the stipulations being that the pilots had to be trained formation fliers, which meant qualifying an ex roulette pilot in the A380, rather than training an A380 pilot in formation flying.

I saw photos of this flyover on another site.
That you were actually there to see it must have been quite neat.
If the optimistic future forecast for this program proves out, we may someday see formation landings of these things at ATL.

That is very cool! One thing about large airplanes is that they look like they're going impossibly slow...same speed as smaller airplane just looks slower when a big jet (747, C-5, A-380) is flying..
