Does this have anything to do with PCMOs like M1 exhibiting higher Fe in used oil analysis ? I also recall an Exxon FAQ on their Elite aviation oil noting that used oil analysis would initially exhibit higher wear metals if switching to it.

No, it has nothing to do with it.
The Exxon Elite issue, I believe, is probably do to the fact it has a secondary dispersant and might be extracting polar species from the liquid fraction of lead sludge.
