anyone else using this one, how's it do,system hog???

I use it on some older computers I keep at some clients homes along with the free firewall. I like it. One computer is an Optiplex with 933 Pentium III 256 mb Ram with XP Pro. Seems to run pretty good with the PCTools free antivirus and firewall. Updates have to be done at one time. The only problem I have had is if I stop in the middle of an update, I have to start over again which is a hassle with a slow connection. I use the paid version of SpyDoctor on my home computers. Seems to work well also. I started using AVG because Norton and others would literally lock-up my parents Gateway 733 and with AVG no problem. Too bad they have gone the way of Norton.

Uninstall and install something else.

what free one do you recommend thats not a system hog
and is user friendly???

On my own systems, I spent the money to buy a copy of NOD32. Works exceptional.

On the last two systems I worked on for people on the side, I have been putting Avira Antivir on it.

Seems to work ok, and not bog down the system too bad. I haven't put it through its paces enough to recommend it yet though.

Honestly, if you have an extra PC thats older and you just want to play around on the internet with it, put linux on it and call it done.

No antivirus, no problems.

I've been putting peoples old computers into their basement or garage, throw a wifi card in it, and they can have an extra machine to surf.

AVG took it seriously. They have a fix out that stops the worst behavior. They were bringing servers down.

AVG fix for web mess they created

But, I agree about DIGG hyperbole. You need a serious mental hyperbole filter to get much out of DIGG which is a shame because there is a lot of good info there.

It didn't detect 007 key logger/snapshot on my computer. I had a folder called SSDATA that it didn't even see

I no longer have faith with AVG. It also does bog down my internet as well.

I've installed free AVG 8.0 at least a hundred times with NO issues in 2000/xp/vista machines. But, avoid their toolbar and mal-reporting during the install, and uncheck the search results linkscanner from the advance settings. While in advanced settings, you can also check/uncheck a few other settings that IMO are defaulted incorrectly for the typically user.

IMO, its is still an excellent product and is not a system hog, but it needs a little common sense during the install and in the advance settings.

BTW, it also works best if your computer doesn't have 'other' issues. Don't blame AVG's inability to work well if you have other hardware/software issues.
