Has anyone used AV lubricants Inc for their UOA? I am just wondering how they compare to Blackstone.

Disclaimer: I am not associated with any of them, just wondering if anyone has used them before.

rearviewmirror, please consider the service listed in the ad above. I hear really good things about their new Premium Service and they helped found the site with Bob Winters!

I would question a lube analysis service that promotes a particular oil brand and doesn't even know its base formulations.
Bklabs is a wonderful lab,and honest sharp folks, they are lacking FTIR testing, and a broader spectrum of analysis that we offer. Additional areas of testing that are in my opinion important for a Quality in depth automotive oil analysis.

At your service, Terry

AVlube uses Predictive Maintenance services. I used them one time before. I see AV lube ships UOA kits free now- thats a plus.
I don't know what Terry is on about. He sure seems to have something against Mobil tho. Especially if you go back and read thru his past posts where he talks bad about GeorgeCLS, etc.
I guess everybodys a little biased....

04,

One thing was that George said there wasn't any sodium in one of Mobil's final products when there obviously was. Terry called him on it. That's not bias.
Just b/c a product isn't performing the way someone wishes it would, doesn't mean anything is biased - just the way it is.

Not just the sodium topic.
I think the site does not need to lose any more sponsors, which you can actually purchase products thru.

04SpecV, I do tell it like it is and take alot of heat for that. Part of owning your own consulting company.

If you read my public comments over MANY years here and at Noria you will find me recommending Mobil and Mobil 1 products when independent oil analysis results warrant it.

You will also see me post "I don't know" when that is the case. Avlube is not a sponsor at BITOG, I am. Am I biased ? Sure, biased against marketing #@$%! or obfuscation.

I actually "like" the Mobil 7500 and 5000 products, the 7500 may have been too good and then pulled!

Terry

I've seen Terry recommend all brands and in his defense, he has been right about Mobil 1. I've also seen him recommend M1 years ago on Noria as well. As a long time Mobil 1 fan, the quality has dropped and I do believe Terry caught on to this early.

In George's defense, I don't think ANYONE will know the base oils being used in Mobil 1 other than BITOG members due to XOM's deceptive ways. We were lucky enough to have someone provide that for us.

Now if I could only understand why Terry recommends LC all the time.....

buster, Thanks, I think...

in testing we are seeing less need for LC with Pennzoil Platinum because the AO additives in that formula are to die for!! LC is primarily an Anti Oxidant for a gasoline engine oil and PP doesn't need it, normally.

BTW, GeorgeCLS and I share more than just a tribo background, we are both rated fixed and rotary wing pilots and I have always had lots of respect for him. He just needs to be careful and not stay in a holding pattern when it comes to admiting that its time to land and get some fuel! I genuinely believe he wants to share and contribute, I just wish he had cried Uncle earlier. Heck we all make mistakes, problem with oil analysis is that you WILL eventually destroy something if and when you do. Especially in automotive applications.

I am NOT an expert in aircraft applications and AVLUBE and George is so I defer to him in that arena.

Thanks Terry. Good to know their is a shelf brand PCMO that is using good chemistry without the inflated price tage.

There sure isn't much variety in the list of sponsors.
