Autoline After Hours is various Detroit car critics gather & share random thoughts on the industry. They gave COAL to Volkswagen for their terible handling of the Emissions Test Cheating Scandal. BTW several VW execs have been arrested & jailed or charged (but fled to Germany)

- "Over a year has passed and we're no closer to knowing what is going on & who is responsible."

- "It was the stupid denial, like saying "We never knew." Now we're learning their GASOLINE engines ae cheating too."

- "I think Volkswagen will run out of money after all the fines are applied."

- "A major praise to the regulators for telling corporations, If you consciously break the rules, the penalties for breaking the law will be severe."

shhhhhhhhh ....
he is bitog's newest drama queen, and gives me, and our group a lot of laughs.

where would bitog be without the drama queens, in the last couple of years? in that time frame, the intelligent threads (the ones on which there was intelligent discussion, without childish bashing), have all but disappeared.geez ... I miss gary.

very heavy ... keep starting these entertaining threads. have a good day.

bitog needs antique, engineer20, and 'prone to come back.

That's pre-bankruptcy GM, a totally different company. Nothing to see here, move along... It would be funny if people hadn't been killed or seriously injured from their preventable screwup. All the majors have had their moments, Ford & Chrysler/Daimler/Cerberus/FCA haven't been immune either.

No. I'm not clicking on your lame bait.

It amounts to this...

"Let's ask a bunch of non-experts who know absolutely nothing about the deeper details of the event what they think?"

I'm sure a bunch of generalizations and sponsor driven hate is worth your time. But I would rather do seven billion other things with my time.

The outrage many have over this irrelevant, in the grand scheme of things, event simply proves how gullible the public really is. Give something enough news coverage and they will swallow anything.

EPA pumped raw diesel exhaust gasses into the lungs of children and adults, that's prior to DPFs and diesel emissions (they used pure, unfiltered exhaust gasses from a delivery truck, parked and idling right outside of the test lab), without getting proper consent and disclosing what the test subjects will be exposed to. Did anybody go to jail or was fined? No. But then, almost nobody covered this story and if they did, it quickly disappeared afterwards.
Not only that, as hard as they tried, they did not kill anyone and only in few cases the test subject showed severe reactions.

But look at what's happening with this VW scandal. They are being accused of killing people through their emissions, people are scared to drive them because they do not want to kill anyone with their tail pipe etc. It's lunacy at its finest.

Customers are NOT happy. They are returning VWs with parts missing, because they are angry they have to return damaged goods: http://jalopnik.com/disgruntled-diesel-vw-owners-are-stripping-their-cars-b-1790053005

Let me be clear (oh no... I sound like Obama): ALL car companies suck. I am NOT just picking on Volkswagen. I pretty much dislike them all, because they have ALL screwed customers in some fashion. IMHO wise people agree. There is really no such thing as an "angel" corporation, because they all have histories:

Well then ride a bike and get off BiTOG.

Toyota and Honda as well - but it was bad code with Toyota, but pure negligence on Honda's part since they and Takata go a long way back.

Takata Airbags are not just Honda cars. They are installed in many different brands:
Fiat
Toyota
Lexus
Mazda
Nissan
Infiniti
Subaru
Chrysler
Dodge
Jeep
Ferrari
Volkswagen
Audi
Mitsubishi

A better solution is for car-makers to stop being dishonest (like voiding warranties, cheating on tests, covering-up flawed ignitions, et cetera). Lately car execs at the HQs have started acting like dealerships.

Yes, this.

While this is another ridiculous thread, I can confirm that VW has been absolutely dreadful during this emissions scandal. My aunt's buyback for her 2013 TDI is March 21st and still tons of people haven't even been able to book their appointment yet, VW dragging their feet. Hers has been sitting in the garage since the beginning of December and won't move until the 21st of March. Actually I've got to take it to a tire shop to get bald tires put on it, no sense in giving it back with new Pirellis.

It's going back with a broken grille, broken windshield, bald tires, non-working A/C, howling steering column, squealing brakes, chattering noise (possible flywheel?), 2,500 miles past due for an oil change, 14,000 miles past due for a fuel filter change, and minus the floor mats and trunk mat.

Not the only one going back like that. Coworker has one with a bad DPF (and wastegate?); had a minor collision, and whatever shop he used did shoddy work (not his fault, the shops fault). Why fix if VW is going to buy back? Problem is, VW is going about it as slow as possible. I suppose their hands are tied too--saw a link someplace where they were parking TDi's in a football field or somesuch--what do you do with this many cars?

THE LAW IS THE LAW.

Why do some think a car company should be exempt from following a law duly-passed by the People & the Republic of these United States? Not just VW, but GM, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Ford, Chrysler, and the rest have to obey the law. If the companies don't like our American laws passed by the People's Representative in congress, well then, they can stop selling cars here.

These laws are not just passed for spite. They are passed to reduce exhaust emissions & damage to human lungs.
