Undummy,
I've had the same thought in my mind regarding a drain and refill every 10,000 miles. Actually, the CR-V transmission pan holds roughly 3 quarts of ATF. So drining and filling the pan 3 times in 30,000 would constitute a complete change.
Also, I am fortunate in that we have a small, local garage where two former Honda Techs started doing business some 15 years ago. These two gentlemen are excellent, trained mechanics who service what needs servicing and TELL YOU to leave the rest alone. Anyway, they recommend and do a very simple flush every 30,000 miles by starting the car, putting it in "drive" with the parking brake on, letting the old oil run into a 5 gallon pail, while simultaneously filling the transmission from the "dip stick" hole. This seems to work great. Apparently doesn't harm the transmission. And was a widely used technique until the more elaborate "flushing equipment" became common.
By the way, these gentlemen also strongly encourage the use of Honda fluids, except for the engine oil, where they are perfectly comfortable using a 5w-20 synthetic.
As far as I am concerned, these two men are my primary source for reliable information about my car. The Honda dealership is only interested in lightening my wallet. And their "techs" weren't even aware that a small filter was already in place on my CR-V. Not confidence inspiring!
