Different esters have different polarities (or non-polarities). Trust me, I ranted on here for a while to everyone that Redline should do the same thing. Until I tried Redline at Tony's urging. He was curious to see if his results were unique in not seeing a cleaning benefit from using Redline in his wife's Mazda. Didn't do a thing for me either, though....

Are there esters that are not polar? I thought it was a characteristic of the chemistry of that type of molecule. I don't know enough about chemistry to know what makes an ester an ester, but I would expect that they would have similar structures.

I have also heard many times that the Grp V Red Line base oils are highly polar, in explanation for their aggressive tendency to attach to metal surfaces and therefore, presumably, help protect them.

I'm not saying by any means that Red Line should clean as well as A-RX. I asked about that in a different thread and accept that it isn't designed to clean and that it won't, when it comes to the types of deposits that A-RX is designed to help with, but I am somewhat curious about the reasons for the differences. I wish some oil chemist here could explain it in better terms than I've seen, meaning better terms than the products' own advertising, which doesn't really say anything. At this point my assumption is that nobody really knows how it does what it does, except maybe Frank, and he isn't saying.

You guys are talkign a different language to me. It is interesting and all but I just want to put the oil in my car that is goign to do the best and the additive that is goign to clean it the best. I could care less for the cemistry....

castrol gtx, valvoline, supertech etc... with the auto-rx, let it work its magic then go back to amsoil with the maintenance doses.

How far into the run of amsoil do you have?

I followed the directions and it worked well for me.
