Auto-RX - warranty issues?

Here's my story - I've used the stuff in my Civic and my motorcycle, no complaints. Convinced by the apparent consensus on this site that the stuff works and is safe to use. Here's my question:

I have an '03 Saab 9-5 Aero, which has the 2.3 turbo engine for which Saab has recently announced an 8-year, unlimited mile extended warranty due to sludge issues.

It's currently got 38k miles on it, just past 2 years on the clock. I use Mobil 1 and change the oil & filter every 5k. I do not anticipate this engine developing any problems due to oil, but am considering doing an Auto-RX cleaning during the 45k-50k interval and then going with the maintenance dose after that, just to be on the safe side.

My question is, would I be running the risk of Saab denying coverage because I used an "additive"? I'm pretty convinced that my idea here would prevent any sludge issues, but wouldn't want to go ahead with it if the company could somehow use it against me in the event something did develop. Thanks,

jeff

What kind of driving has the Saab seen - % highway, % city. I suspect using AutoRX at 45-50K is overkill.

I am using it presently in my 95 Maxima that just turned 60K a little while ago. The clean phase will be over in about a week. I question how much I will benefit from using it. However, I have noticed some improvement in fuel economy.

I would be inclined to wait until closer to 60K to use AutoRX. My driving has been about 80% highway. If yours is predominantly city driving maybe an AutoRX application at 50K wouldn't hurt, but I have no idea at what mileage most members start using AutoRX. I wouldn't be surprised if was much closer to 100K.

Getting back to your question: Don't tell the dealership you are using AutoRX. Add it yourself and go somewhere else for the oil change that begins the rinse phase as well as the subsequent oil change. What they don't know won't hurt them!

I dont recall that VOAs of auto-rx show anything that would flag abnormal... its more the ester compound itself, which would not be noticable, if they sampled your oil.

Just dont tell them, no biggie!

I think that given that this engine has had sludge problems, that going for arx right way is a good idea if for no other reason than peace of mind. Go for it, get ti clean, then go back to M1 with a maintenance dose to ensure nothing else forms.

Or consider using LC to keep things good in your oil from then on.

The engine will be sludge free. That is an instant sign that something is amiss in a sludge monster
