What dictates whether a person rinses for 1000 miles or longer, like 2000 miles? I'm now at 1525 miles on the first rinse. I want to do a second application. Why would I wait to 2000 miles to start my second application?

Also, the sump in my car holds 4 litres. As I understand it the application should be done with 10 oz. of ARX ( 2 oz./litre and 2 oz. for the filter). Why wouldn't I use the full bottle? Is it just a waste to use the full bottle or would the extra amount cause a problem?

Auto-Rx is in a 12 ounce bottle. Non synthetic oil is different ratio than synthetic oil or synthetic blend. You don't want to add second bottle till your done first rinse cycle. here is applicationfor synthetic oils.
High mileage blend oils using synthetic esters should follow the Auto-Rx application format for true synthetic oil. If you're going to use
high mileage oil with etherified additive to clean for initial application of Auto-Rx, add 2 ounces per quart of oil and drive 1,500 miles. Drop oil and change filter. For rinse cycle use plain non-synthetic oil (Dino oil) with no Auto-Rx, drive 2,000 miles. Application for engine under 100,000 is done. Look at what has drained out of your engine and also know you have reconditioned seals by the rinse mode.

Engine over 100,000 miles; after driving 2,000 miles as per above instructions, keep non-synthetic oil (Dino oil) in use, add second bottle of Auto-Rx, drive 750 miles and drain (you have latitude here - you can go to 1,500 miles if you choose as long as filter is able to hold debris). Drain oil and change filter. Now go back to your high mileage oil. Auto-Rx application is finished. No seal leaks

Thanks for the reply Frank.

I'm not sure my question was answered though.

My 1st rinse oil has been Penzoil 5W30 "dino" oil. Not a synthetic or a blend.

Since I have passed the 1500 mile mark on this conventional oil is the rinse done? Or, do I continue rinsing to 2000 miles as if I was using a synthetic? If so why?

Your answer is here:
http://www.auto-rx.com/pages/applications.htm

You used dino, so your rinse is done at 1000 miles (it won't hurt that you went 1525 miles). If you are planning a 2nd application, go ahead and add the bottle now to the existing oil. Don't change the filter (until after your 2nd dose is complete).

AutoRX works on ratios, so 10 oz. would be your dose. If you put 12 oz. in, it won't hurt anything, it's just a waste of 2 oz. Better to save those 2 oz. for a maintanence dose after your next oil change.

my friend has a question:

"if for the first application in my 2002 v6 pathfinder i only put in half a bottle of auto rx....and leave it in for 3k...will it be ok... will i get the same benifit?"

i didnt really answer his question...i dont know why he doesnt want to use a full bottle or at least 10oz (5 qt sump).

Thanks timzak,

What you stated is what is what I've been thinking of doing.

I've been confused because Frank quotes synthetic rinse fiqures, when I didn't state in my question that I was using synthetic rinse oil. Maybe he remembers that for the first application I had Mobil 1 in the crank case and now assumes I'm continuing with Mobil 1 for the rinse. Do you happen to know if doing the cleaning cycle with synthetic results in a longer rinse, regardless of whether or not synthetic is the rinse oil?

YUK rinse cycle of Auto-Rx is based on what type
of initial oil you first added Auto-Rx with.
If true synthetic or synthetic blend, after cleansing and changing oil to a non synthetic (rinse ) you need to drive 2000 miles. Now if your saying I am now using non synthetic oil and wish to do second part of Auto-Rx cleaning than your rinse cycle is 1000 miles. No harm if you want to extend that another 500 miles. From this point on with every oil change add 3 ounces of Auto-Rx with every oil change for You will continue to maintain gains from cleaning your engine.Read Norm Olt's posts on mpg on long trip.

Thanks again Frank,

Just to clarify, I am going to do the following:

1. Now that I've travelled 1500 miles on the first rinse, I'm going to add the 2nd, 10 oz treatment of A-RX.

2. Once I've passed the 1000 mile mark with the second cleaning treatment I will then drain the oil and replace the filter.

3. Now for the second and final rinse with conventional oil for 1000 miles.

4. Lastly, I will now return to the use of synthetic oil.

Do I finally have this straight? I feel like nuisance I don't want to bug you guys anymore over this.
