Is auto-rx just as effective on short trips as it is one long highway drives? Some of you already know this but I'm 400 miles into the clean phase of my arx treatment but I do make a lot of short trips less than 10 miles, where I work is only 4 miles away from my house. I do usually try to take on a drive of 15 or 20 miles at least once a week but sometimes that just doesn't happen. Will I get as good of a cleaning on short city trips as I would on long highway roadtrips? Has anyone done arx with a lot of short trips? I have an 88 Bronco II with 46k.

I did short trips on my 1992 Grand Marquis and when I completed cleaning and rinse phase I did not noitice any differance. When I did my Dodge caravan my job was traveling I had my cleaning done in two weeks again there was no differance.As long as you complete all phases and miles it makes no differance about how many miles you drive at a time. I hope this makes sense.

One would think it works better when the oil is at operating temperature, and so long drives should be more efficient. But I think the manufacturer considered that in the prescribed miles to run this stuff, so you should be OK.

I think the miles/hrs are most important. I would think the longer rides might help it along marginally.
I am just over 1,000 miles into my AutoRX clean phase which began on July 9 for my 95 Maxima, which just turned 60K mostly highway miles. I should be through the 1,500 mile clean phase by mid-September. However, I anticipate my driving will be curtailed starting about November and I might not complete the 2,000 mile rinse phase until February sometime.
When I do use the car late in the year and early next year it will come up to operating temperature but may sit for 3 or 4 days without being used in between 45 mile round trips I need to take.
Will this likely adversely affect the AutoRX rinse phase?

What I should have said was no difference in short trips or long trips the Auto-Rx works great. I use 2oz.every oil change as a maintance program. I also had a seal leak in my 1999 Dodge Caravan and Auto-Rx stopped it.

I would venture to guess that the process excells in the presenceof heat. If the oil isnt getting up to temperature, or near temperature, chances are the process is inhibited and will not work as well, as fast.
Now of course the 2000 miles or whatever the suggested cleaning phase is may take that into account. But I couldnt say.
More generic info on the mechanism of cleaning and parameters which most gretly influence cleaning efficiency would allow us to know or at least make a very good guess.

It does not take long for heat generation to occur around the rings, or top of the heads even in short trips. Auto-rx is effective in short trips. Short trips usually involve a sequence of stop and go, whereby the motor is turning some decent rpms as the vehicle progresses through the gears. You get get flow, although somewhat spiked in short runs. Highway miles are likely the best due to good oil pressure and flow.
On a closing note, if the car being treated is always used for short trips, then its likely to be a dirtier motor than one that sees alot of highway driving.
