7-7.5k OCIs, on mineral oils, is why many vehicles have issues.

Start a more frequent OCI, depending on oil used, and you'll have less future problems.

10w40 might be a little thick for Utica winters.

IMO, without a used oil analysis, a mineral oil used for 5k OCI's might not be up to the task, especially since you don't "put a lot of miles on the Galant". I would think that 'timely' and not 'mileage' based intervals would be better.

well,

I'm hoping the MC is good for 5k in the Civic....

If the top end is moderately dirty, I would vote for 2 cleaning applications. Any seat of the pants observations that compession is sub-par?

I will know better tomorrow, i replaced the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (not the gauge sensor, but the one that tells the engine "I'm cold, feed me fuel"...then again, you already know that) and will see if that was part of the issue.
In all reality, when floored, at any speed and she kicks down a gear, she has great power. been having issues when cold, but i'm hoping it was either the sensor or a fuel delivery issue....
the ticking drives me nuts though, and it appears it got worse with the 10W-40...
going to run the ARX in my PS pump too, after i find out how much fluid the system takes...

Who out there has used this product? I've seen in side 300,000 mile engines that had regular oil changes and they were clean, even the rings moved freely on the pistons. I've also seen inside engines before there was detergent oil and that was a mess. I'm tending to think this stuff is a snake oil, am I wrong?

I see you're new here so your question makes sense. You'll have some catching up to do on ARX - it's pretty unique stuff. Do a search.

While you may have seen clean engines with 300K miles on them using regular oil (the GM 3.8L V6 would be good candidate for that category, or most any Honda engine), there are plenty of modern engines that generate sludge and/or high temp deposits like nobody's business, particularly when regular oil is used.

When you pull the PCV valve with the engine running warmed up fully what do you see? Is the tune OK with no chronic fuel dilution?

Rodbuckler : what were you asking for with this question ? I don't follow it at all.

"Is the Tune OK" ???

How would you determine anything about fuel dilution by pulling the PCV ????

Thanks...Phil

They are two separate questions. If vapors come pouring out the PCV at hot idle, it is an indication of stuck rings or worn exhaust valve guides or something else. If your fuel dilution is chronic, you can generally smell it in the hot oil.

Any UOA done on the Galant to determine fuel dilution. If so probably a good move to replace the coolant temperature sensor. Looking forward to your pics. Tick is worse with the 15W30, might be a bit heavy for Utica winter weather of late. Suggest adding the ARX to your motor warm and run a few miles to disperse the ARX, then some extended length runs at full operating temperature in the Galant for maximum optimum results.

no UOA, figured she's just an experiment now.
replaced the coolant temp sensor this weekend, drove today, no changes....and she doesn't like that Chevron 10W-40 at all!
I'm starting my ARX (two treatments) this weekend after i take a compression check and valve lifter photos....

??? Should i change out the 10W-40? I want to run the same weight oil since i'll be taking 2-3 compression tests and photos during my fun.

I bought 5W-20 tonight just in case....she was on 5w30, but still had the tick....
thoughts anyone?
