Auto-Rx and Acura transmission

After reading all the good things about Auto-Rx, I ordered some for my oil and my auto tranny on my 94 Integra. I understand the process for the oil change, but am a little confused about the flushing part for transmissions.

On the Auto-Rx site, they recommend using a T-tech flushing system to completley change out all the ATF. However, when I called a local dealership, they said that Honda/Acura recommends against using this process, but instead a "triple flush."

I just want to know what's the best process to use to flush out the transmission on my car.

I think the Honda/Acura automatic transmissions hold less ATF than most and a larger proportion drains from the sump drain.

I do a triple flush on a Honda. Warm the transmisson by driving, drain the transmission sump and refill, drive around the block, drain & refill, ditto, ditto.

According to the service rep, a "triple flush" consists of using 12 qts of ATF and changing the fluid 3 times. I was told by the same rep that because of the design of honda/acura transmissions, that this method was the safest way. He was saying that flushing the system might cause clogging.

They probable want it done this was as oppossed to the T-Tech..if the tranny is like my Accord...there is no filter/ screen that you can replace to get rid of any major, crap.

Exactly, there is no replaceable transmission filter on Acura trannies.

Also, I just want to know if anyone with a honda/acura has done the T-tech flush and whether or not they had any problems.

There is no particulates to clog up anything Auto-Rx has liquified all.There is nothing that can stop up anything. A conventinal transmission flush
yes your dealer knows that there will be "pieces"
not with Auto-Rx. Either way you go you will be happy with results of cleaning and performance of your transmission.

i have a 90 integra that i ran auto-rx through the tranny and did t-tech. no issues except that i was very impressed with results. if you do t-tech, make SURE that you get the atf from the honda dealer and bring your own to the shop that does the service. none of them use genuine honda, which is the only way to go with these cars. the recommended substitute was DexII, which is practically non-existent. regardless of what anyone on the board says, DexIII is not COMPLETELY reverse compatible, specifically in these trannies. it has been said by an ASE Master Mechanic that I wrote in to in Chgo Trib for his national column that DexIII can be used with lubegard in black bottle, but by that time, genuine honda is just as cheap, and you know it works-and works best. anyway, i had no issues with t-tech.

Sounds good. I've been using only Honda ATF since I bought the car and change it every 15K miles. I can get the fluid for about $3/qt so I don't mind chaging it often. If I bring my own fluids, should I bring 7 qts or do I need to bring more?

Hey there,

Is the triple flush recommended to get the old
stuff out of the Torque Converter ?
I ask this since I want to drain the fluid but
really don't want to mess with dropping a pan
since it would be my first time with working on
a transmission.

BTW- if I were to do the triple flush would this
cause probs with using a synthetic.
Mercon is recommended for my car.

Slade,
Your Ford holds more oil in the torque converter than a Honda, so it would take several more drains & refills to get a decent proportion of new fluid in your's.
