Auto-RX - 2 clean treatment is over

I have a Honda Civic with a ZC engine. It is a DOHC engine - 1.6 liters.

I just finished a double treatment of Auto-RX. I looked through the oil cap and noticed that it started to remove some of the varnish. However, there is still alot of varnish left. There are little areas of clean spots.

I don't suspect the car has a lot sludge as regular oil changes have always been done.

Should I do a 3rd treament of Auto-RX to get rid of the varnish? What should I do?

You could see the same thing on my heads when I had them removed. You could see where the oil flow had removed the varnish. I would imagine that there are incidental areas that would take some time to come clean. I wouldn't bother with another treatment unless you desire to get these areas clean. Perhaps using a maintenance dose from here on out it may get it all

If all that is left after two ARX runs is varnish, I would recommend LC, which is effective in these situations.

would doing a 3rd Auto-rx treatment be harmful to the engine and/or seals? I have a 3rd bottle and I'm not sure if I should use it for maintenance doses or for a full blown 3rd treatment to get rid of the varnish and to make sure my engine is truely clean.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

I'd simply use it for a maintenance dose for the next couple of oil changes.

Doing 3 Auto-RX treatments "back to back" will not harm the engine. Your objective is to clean the engine, Auto-RX is a gentle cleaner, use it as directed and clean the engine. Maintenance - smaintenance.

Did you do these clean/rinse cycles with conventional oil?

Did you do the clean/rinse with the prfered conventional oil and did you leave the ARX in for the full recomended time? If so then I would do the mantance dose from now on or as someone said try Fp first.

i didnt know about this site and followed the directions on the bottle.

1st Clean - 1500 miles
1st Rinse - 2000 miles

2nd Clean - 750 miles
2nd Rinse - 2000 miles

I've been reading that the 2nd clean should be the same 1500 miles....

should i do the full blown 3rd treatment then?

varnish is varnish. It's not hurting anything.

I (in my infinite wisdom

) recommend this:

1. Change PCV. It can't hurt and it's cheap.

2. Use the ARX for a third full-blown treatment.

3. Follow-up with an LC flush, then use the recommended dose of LC in the oil at all times.

4. Use a high-quality oil that will inhibit future deposit problems, such as a HDEO or Mobil 1 Extended Performance or GC.

5. Be happy!

Seeing how it is varnish more then anything else buy 1 gallon of LubeControl! Use it as directed and it will probably take care of that varnish in 500-1000 miles or darn close!I think ARX is great stuff but it stinks at removeing varnish based upon my experince with it! It is great for removeing sludge and carbon and revitilizeing seals that are mechanicly intact.

For varnish removal, light sludge and general maintence I would try LC!!

As for the third bottle I would save it! Surely it could be put to good use in an Automatic transmission or to clean a couple of powersteering systems. You might want to consider useing it down the road either on this car or another one. I was recently told that it has an indefinate shelf life so their is no reason to feel compelled to use it right now!
