Audible warnings

I can't stand the seatbelt warning on my Ranger. It is specifically DESIGNED to annoy the heck out of you until you put your seatbelt on. Every 15 seconds BING-BING-BING-BING and a flashing light. I always wear my seatbelt when driving, but not if I'm just moving the truck around the driveway! It's so annoying I sometimes just plug the seatbelt in and immediately unplug it, which disables it.

Honestly I just want to kick the door in. The Ford trucks are constantly dinging, but at least it's not that loud.

I can't keep straight all the causes of dinging and i just don't care. I could live with it if I leave the lights on and lock the keys in it if I could shut it UP!

Ignition on, radio off, hold down the 6 button on the radio. You can adjust the volume of the ding.

Ford's often have a way to stop the 'dinging'.
It should be in the owner's manual.
Goofy multiple key turn ons with unplugging of the seat belt three times, etc..

Why hasn't this been mainstream?

Apparently most GM vehicles have had these features since the late 90s, up to the point where they'll start chiming if you drive with the turn signal on for more than 1 mile.

I can't remember how many times I was gagged by the automatic shoulder harness in my girlfriend's Corolla. I'm glad those things are history!

My best friend in high school had a 1980 Ford Fairmont Futura Turbo. (yes, they do exist in spite of the Wikipedia entry)

Normally, when the turbocharger was creating boost, a green light on the left side of the dash labled "TURBO" would illuminate. In an "overboost" situation, all four lights on the left side of the dash would illuminate and a buzzer would sound.

Under the "overboost" situation, you were supposed to lift off the accelerator. More often than not he didn't and many a cross-fire-hazard Camaro were dispatched (okay, one)....you know...when we were young and stupid enough to drive like that.

I remember that lady. She was obviously Japanese though because when you left the parking brake on she would say, "Your pawking brake is on"

When I worked at Chysler back in the early 80s, and cars talking back to you were in vogue, the engineers would all try to get their hands on French module to put in their cars.

My Jeep has the turn signal warning after a mile as well. It's just a couple of beeps to tell you there's a warning, then it displays on the info display screen. It doesn't keep beeping. Same for low coolant, low washer fluid, door open, and a couple others. The key in chime is kind of annoying, but flipping the key back to ACC stops that.

You don't even have to plug the belt in. Just hit the release button and it will turn off. "Belt Minder" is kind of annoying.

As annoying as the various chimes are in a newer Ranger, it's much better than the loud buzzing noise my parents' '86 Ranger would make.

I was glad my Neon has an overheating warning chime, I was getting into a groove on a track day and quit looking at my gauges and then "BING BING BING". It got my attention real quick and the car didn't boil over even though my scangauge read 246F! Running with the heat on full brought temps down to a more reasonable 228F for the rest of the day.
