I have a 2001 Audi TT Coupe and the left rear blinker lightbulb burned out. Now as all TT owners know NOTHING is simple on these vehicles. Changing this bulb appears to be difficult. Any tips? I opened the small "door" on the inside of the trunk area and found the back of the light housing but I am not sure how to remove the blinker bulb. The owners manual was less than helpful as it just said, "Bring it to the dealer". I would like to avoid this option as handing over $50 to change a bulb would probably kill me physically and emotionally. Any suggestions?

If it is like all the other modern VW products, there should be some tabs to depress that will release the plastic panel/bulb holders.

But....when you disconnect the electrical connector, it will probably fall to a location not reachable by any human life form, and the access panel will be 1/4" smaller that the bulb panel, making the panel only able to be removed in one orientation which you will find after 10 minutes of cussing and lacerating your hands on all the sharp plastic edges in the area. After the wounds are dressed and the bulb is replaced you will forget the orientation needed to insert the bulb panel, repeating several above steps. When you reinstall the electrical connector, you will see that the bulb has been jostled loose. You will try to re-set the bulb, but it falls into the area where the wiring was residing. At this point you start the process over. I recall this from replacing a break light bulb in my old (’01) Jetta about this time last year.

Willy G is, of course, right!

Though you could also try searching the board archives and tech articles at Audiworld.com. If you don't find the answer, post the question in the appropriate board there.

It's an extremely active community, and the site has tons of technical info on these cars.

BTW, I first learned of BITOG from a post there.

Yup, the taillamp has to come out to change the bulbs. When you open the little access door in the hatch you'll see 2 little thumb wheels. Loosen & remove each one to carefully release the taillamp. Once the lamp is removed you'll have unobscured access the the bulbholder which is attached to the taillamp.
