I was reading this thread about octane boosters and in one of the links from there I ran accross this:

quote:

MAKE YOUR OWN OCTANE BOOST
How to make your own octane booster (this is the basic formula of one of the popular octane booster products). To make eight 16 ounce bottles (128 oz = 1 gal):
100 oz of toulene for octane boost
25 oz of mineral spirits (cleaning agent)
3 oz of transmission fluid (lubricating agent)

This product is advertised as "octane booster with cleaning agent *and* lubricating agent!". Diesel fuel or kerosene can be substituted for mineral spirits and light turbine oil can be substituted for transmission fluid. Color can be added with petroleum dyes.

Is this info accurate? Im interested because I have a case of cheapo ATF that has been sitting around for over a year and I know Ill never use it.

Thanks

3 oz in a gallon of additive shouldn't hurt anything and it should act as an UCL........BUT this would be slow way to get rid of a case of ATF. Especially if the additive is used 16 oz per tank.

So to answer your subject question, I would say NO. (unless you put it your tank with an eye dropper)

But that homebrew is OK. Make sense?

I think I get it

If I were to use toulene it would be at least a gallon of it. I would do either 10 or 20% to run higher boost. Would you still say that homebrew is OK if I were dumping two gallons of it in my 15 gallon tank?

Thanks!

That sounds like a LOT! I have read 10-20% is safe, but I'm not sure you even need that much. But it's your car

How much boost do you run?

There are a lot of wrx owners who run 10-20% toulene. I dont think Ive heard of any problems yet. My car is alot closer to stock than a lot of those guys. I would just use it to safely turn up the boost to about 16 psi w/ an MBC for special occasions. It runs around 14 psi stock. Plenty of people run mbcs on regular gas with no probs accept partial throttle high boost situations which makes the egts soar.
