ATF filter on 99 Corolla

99 Corolla 54K miles 4spd Auto

Man,I find it so easy to just to remove the drain plug and refill(4qts refill)that I have never gotten around to changing the darn transmission filter on the thing so far.

Does anyone know for sure if this model of 4spd auto uses a metal type screen filter or the conventional filter type medium for the tranmission filter?

I could be wrong, but I had an 03 matrix which should have the same transmission as your corolla. The dealer told me that this transmission does not have a filter. This is, so they told me, why they recommend changing the fluid so frequently.

On car parts websites I have seen a replacement part with a transmission pan gasket offered as a kit but it's hard to see if it's a metal screen type or not.
