I did an ATF fluid exchange in my 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.8L auto over the weekend. It has 85K on it. I thought it was about time to do this. I bought it with 65K. At that time, I had an independent shop do an ATF filter and fluid change on it. I don't know what brand of ATF he put in it.
Good news is that my "flush" went very well. I just unhooked the output line from the cooler and connected a clear tube to a container. I then ran it until I got 2 quarts out, stopped the engine, and refilled 2 quarts. I did this for 8 quarts. I used Chrysler's ATF+4.
Bad news is that one of the downshifts clunks or is harder than it should be (when I slow down from 40mph and right at about 5-10mph).
I have checked the level again and I'm OK.
Should I:
-flush some more
-drop the pan and change filter
-take it to a shop
Thanks,
Grease
