What they said (Dex-III, Dex-VI, any Dex/Merc, MaxLife ATF).
Yes, MaxLife Dex/Merc is a good choice.
I would also recommend the Valvoline Maxlife dex merc but the correct fluid that supercedes DexronII is DexronVI. Either one would work fine albeit I feel the Maxlife is superior.
If you can locate the Maxlife at Autozone it's supposed to be $13 a gallon until the end of today. Otherwise I find it at my local Meijer for $17/gallon

If i drop the extra coin for the RP/RL/M1 Full Synthetic could I hit it and forget it for the next 150k?

I would say no.
A synthetic ATF is no majic elixir.
Clutch disc/clutch plate wear, bearing wear, and gear tooth wear all contribute to the particle load in ATF.
In addition, oxidation degrades an ATF.
Transmission longevity, in my view, means changing fluid (pan drop and refill) and filter every 30k miles.

Can we say this about non-GM transmissions?
And, older Hondas used DexII, but do better with Honda ATF than DexIII, in my limited experience.
