ATF cooler line for 2005 Corolla?

If you guys are not concerned about the Magnefine then I guess I won't be either, especially if Donald has his in a similar location and it is working fine.

Another question ...

I have heard that while doing the cooler line flush, if you have the vehicle in drive (with the emergency brake and brake engaged), it forces the transmission fluid pump to force the new fluid through the transmission also; hence, getting an even better flush. Any truth to this?

Amsoil has an awesome write up on how to flush an ATF at home with a helper. FWIW, it doesn't mention putting into drive. It just says to "start the vehicle".

ETA: I'll definitely post some pics. Magnefine sure seems to take awhile to ship out their product. It has been almost a week and not one email telling me that this thing is in shipping or picking stage.

I don't know your trans, but even an older style full hydraulic trans caches very little fluid outside of the pan, converter, and some in the cooler circuit. In the case of a cooler line flush, you're interrupting the normal pathway back to the trans (used typically to lubricate and cool the rotating parts before going to the sump). By doing this in DRIVE you'll be (probably) fine until the pump cavitates and then clutches/bands would release and your brakes will no longer stop parts from rotating. I don't know the sequence of decoupling ..so it may just go dead.

Either way, I would not do this.

This is not encouraging news about Magnefine. Did you order from the web or by phone?

I think it would be just as good just to drain and refil it every 16K miles. It is not like it is something hard to do or messing like working on a GM product. Pull the plug drin it and refill. Ignore Toyota's change interval and go for 16K if you are useing OEM fluid and 25K if you use GM Dex-VI fluid which is WS rated on the back of the label. Mom's Tundra has been getting 16K drain and fills with Mobil 1 ATF since it was new. Here 07 Camry is almost ready for a drain and fill as well and I am prob. going to switch from Mobil 1 ATF to Dex-VI since itis $3.77 a quart at Walmart for the WPP bottled stuff. They all use the same additive package from the same supplier only the base stocks vary. Prior to Dex-VI coming to market I was going to use Maxlife ATF which many Toyota car's have been useing in place of T-IV for some time and liking it very well! I think Toyota's T-IV and WS are not that well built as far as ATF's go and their UOA seldom look good or even decent!

I am no transmission expert but are we looking for 99% new fluid or is 98% good enough. The downside is you now have rotating parts that need to be lubricated, if you happen to run the pump dry and see air bubbles in the clear drain tubing then going through the gears might not be a good idea. You can't be watching the clear tubing for air bubbles if you are shifting through the gears. In a car or truck with a big pan its less of an issue but in my Camry I barely get 1 1/2 QTs our before I see the air bubbles.
 
TheOak: Thanks for the diagram. What do you think about installing the Magnafine in hose # 32922A ? Would it fit ?
